Punk Steams Up

November 10, 2010

Today we’re shootn’ up a subculture that’s gaining momentum and drawing attention from the fashion world to science geeks alike. The 3rd annual steampunk fashion show and exhibition held in the DUMBO Loft was jam packed full of inginuetive looks that mixed elements from the Victorian era, sci-fi and mother nature. Set against a gorgeous Brooklyn fall backdrop, these steampunks really sizzle.

Keep it hot.

Harvesting the New Wave Crop

October 30, 2010

Happy Halloween Eve! I hope this finds you getting your greatest get-up on.

Fall is the most invigorating and exciting time in fashion. After digesting what’s on the horizon from the spring/summer 2011 collections and taking notice of what’s eye-catching on the streets of New York this fall season, I’ve noticed a cool crop of new wave looks — with influences from 80s and 90s punk and grunge with a dash of goth sprinkled on top.

Check out a few looks from Y-3′s S/S 11 runway show:

Hot off the streets of NYC:

Keep on inspiring.

Zero G in Style

July 11, 2010

Today we’re shoot’n up — zero G style. My first generation Virtual Daughter Spacewear prototype, the Earhart Aviatrix Jumpsuit (inspired by what Amelia Earhart will look like when she’s found in the future) made it’s weightless debut on Liz Kennick, the president of the Space Tourism Society of New York. She reported the jumpsuit performed beautifully and got a great response from everyone else on the flight, Zero G and a gold star approval from the FAA. Virtual Daughter Spacewear won 1st place in a Space Tourism Society fashion competition and will be featured at the upcoming Space Frontier Foundation’s New Space Conference in California.

The Good Life

July 4, 2010

I was born in the USA, on a farm in South Central Nebraska to be exact. Their motto is “the good life.” What’s not to love — there’s big open sky and flat land as far as the eye can see and more animals than there are people. When you do happen to meet some of the locals, they tend to be sweeter than apple pie with extra cream on top. This 4th of July get grounded with your roots — cuz  you’re gonna need them as we go shoot’n up a creek without a paddle and I sure hope ya don’t mind.

Let freedom ring and keep liv’n the dream —

The Availabilists

June 9, 2010

The starlets of today’s flight of fancy are “availabilists” (coined by performance artist and musician Kembra Pfahler), whom “utilize everything, from shards of broken safety glass to abandoned lampshades to create the ultimate artworks of the period — themselves,” says artist and community activist Clayton Patterson. I became mesmerized by Patterson’s photographs at the opening of his “Pyramid Portraits” photography exhibition at the Esopus Space, which features the crème de la crème of the mid-80s New York Pyramid  club availabilist crop. Patterson masterfully captured his Queens in the dressing room of the Pyramid over the course of several years of Sunday night cabaret shows.

Grab a great big dose of inspiration from some of the stunning starlets of Patterson’s knockout show:

In addition to this exhibition, be sure to check out Captured — a great documentary film about Patterson showcasing his work from the ’80s up until now in New York’s Lower East Side.

Keep shoot’n on up —

Feathers Fly

June 4, 2010

I happened upon a mystical Aztec tribe’s ceremony on one of these recent fine days in Central Park. Gotta love the magical moments in NYC:

Keep on flying higher.

Look beyond the mirror on your wall and see what you see.

Reflect what you want reciprocated in the future.
